The Emergency Medical Technician provides patient care in accordance with KBEMS regulations and Sedgwick County EMS Protocols. Emergency Medical Technicians work to provide emergency care in accordance with protocol. EMT’s provide safe transportation to and from health care facilities, as well as transfer of care to persons with equal or higher level of care.

Quality out of Hospital Health Care

Provide basic life support and emergency care in accordance with both KBEMS regulations and Sedgwick County approved protocols

Establish a cohesive and productive working environment to enhance overall patient care

Maintain a safe work environment to minimize risk of injury

Determine most effective method of transport to and from health care facilities

Coordinate care with receiving facilities of situation in a timely manner

Provide verbal reports and transfers care to persons with equal or higher level training

Documentation

Maintain accurate and complete electronic reports pertaining to patient care

Maintain accurate and complete Physician Certification Statement forms

Maintain accurate and complete vehicle maintenance, automobile condition, equipment condition, and facility condition electronic reports.

Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA

Operational Readiness

Maintain readiness to respond to emergencies during an assigned shift

Maintain vehicle, equipment, and station activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures

Notify immediate supervisor of any found deficiencies that impact normal operations

Respond to emergent/non-emergent calls in a safe manner minimizing risk to crew and public

Notify appropriate personnel of the role, capabilities, and responsibilities of an EMT

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. State of Kansas EMT Certification. NREMT will be accepted until hire. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience in emergency medical Services.
