assist in the development of, and implement policies and procedures.<br><br>Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.<br><br>Review the work of subordinates to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures; personally conduct internal affairs investigations; compile and maintain operational statistical records and prepare related reports.<br><br>Assume immediate command of police activities in the event of an emergency.<br><br>Serve on special assignment with the Hostage Emergency Reaction Team, Fire Arms Committee, FTO Program and various training programs.<br><br>Prepare, review and coordinate performance evaluations for subordinate personnel; conduct internal investigation of citizen and officer complaints as assigned.<br><br>Review, correct and participate in the preparation of police reports and records.<br><br>Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.<br><br>Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: </em><br>  <br><strong>Experience:<br> </strong><br>One and one half years law enforcement experience as a Police Sergeant at time of application, and three years law enforcement experience as a Police Sergeant at time of appointment.<br> <br><strong>Training:</strong><br> <br>Equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field.<br>  <br><strong>License or Certificate:</strong><br> <br>Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.<br> <br>Possession of a P.O.S.T.
