Eligibility requirements vary by position. The responsibility of the Category Director is to direct and oversee the development and execution of sound category strategies and tactics that are aligned with company and divisional objectives. The Category Director is responsible for the overall business performance of the category team in regard to achieving budgeted objectives while ensuring that the category portfolio meets or exceeds the expectation of our members.

Responsibilities

  • Creates the appropriate vision, strategy and tactics to deliver against both short and long term objectives.
  • Responsible for achieving budgeted sales, profit and inventory productivity objectives.
  • Direct and evaluates performance of category team associates.
  • Responsible for the training and development of buyers and assistant buyers.
  • Direct the creation and management of optimal assortments, retail pricing and promotions within each assigned category to optimize member value, regional relevance, inventory productivity and club efficiencies. This pertains to both national brands and own brands products.
  • Leverage Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong internal organizational collaboration across Logistics, Operations, Marketing and Finance to ensure goals are met.
  • Assist with the development and management of collaborative vendor relationships.
  • Th Category Director is responsible for educating and leading his/her team in adopting to category management best practices in regard to category roles, assortment and space management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Minimum of 5 years direct buying/merchandising experience at a mid-management level; 8 - 10 years of category management/leadership experience in a merchandising or procurement function.
  • Proven leadership skills required
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills required
  • Category management expertise required
  • Expert knowledge of industry trends, competition, assortment planning, inventory management, logistics and marketing techniques.
