Overview

Flatiron School is seeking a part-time, contract-based Career Coach to provide on-demand, 1:1 support to our graduates pursuing roles in Software Engineering, Data, Cybersecurity, and AI.

Our grads are adult learners and career changers navigating a competitive job market. They're smart, motivated, and often anxious. Sometimes they need a cheerleader. Other times, they need to be challenged with kind and constructive feedback — or simply reminded why they started this journey in the first place. Your role is to meet each student where they are and help them take confident next steps.

What Coaching Means at Flatiron

“The skill of asking empowering questions to both support and challenge a person to make forward progress in pursuit of a goal.” That definition guides our approach. Coaches at Flatiron focus on asking, not telling. We believe our students are capable and resourceful, and we help them tap into their strengths while navigating real-world job search obstacles.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct 30-minute video coaching sessions tailored to each student’s unique goals and challenges
  • Ask thoughtful, empowering questions that challenge and support students to move forward
  • Offer actionable feedback on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and interview strategies
  • Run mock behavioral interviews and review networking plans
  • Help students manage their job search pipeline and navigate setbacks
  • Model professionalism in every interaction — including responsiveness, candor, and reliability
  • Document light notes and agreed-upon action items after each session
  • Engage with the peer teams via Slack as needed for support or alignment
  • Delivery remote workshops on job search skills to students and prospective students on a monthly basis

Who You Are

  • You have 5+ years of professional experience in coaching, workforce development, HR, adult education, or a related field
  • You’re a skilled, empathetic communicator who can quickly build trust
  • You’re energized by meeting new people and can pivot fluidly between different student needs
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and use good judgment on when to escalate
  • You’re tech-savvy enough to navigate Google Sheets and internal tools without friction
  • You love helping others grow — and you do it with humility, clarity, and care
  • Bonus: You have a technical background (e.g., former technical recruiter or specialize in coaching technical professionals)

Additional Details

  • Scheduling is student-driven: Coaches make their availability known and are booked as needed (expect fluctuations week to week)
  • Session format: 30-minute video calls, with light documentation after each session
  • Contract dates: Jun. 1 - Aug. 28, 2026
